My Mentor – Rev Hezekiah Stewart

I will be forever grateful to this man, Rev Hezekiah Stewart.  He nurtured my need to help others. As a teen mother, I wanted to help and encourage other teen moms that came behind me. Through him, I was able to help grow the Sister Friend project (with Sandra) where I was able to mentor and guide young mothers. He even featured me in his documentary about the work we were doing. When I told him about my idea to start “The Woman in the Mirror” women’s empowerment conference, he threw his support behind my events which meant a lot given, his standing in the community. Lives were changed through both projects. He saw something in me that meant more than he will ever know

The number of people this man clothed, fed, housed, encouraged, and mentored isn’t quantifiable. He never looked down on anyone. The same love he gave to executives, he gave to drug addicts and criminals. He has literally given the clothes off his back. If anyone will hear “job well done,” it HAS to be him. Little Rock has lost a true servant leader—a legend.

Stewart said the mission of Watershed was “to turn people around through retooling and re-schooling. I’ve learned to love people how I find them … all of them belong to the Lord — the good and the bad, the rich and the poor and all those in between.”

Rest in love, Rev Hezekiah Stewart. Your impact on me and my heart to give cannot be overstated.
